eMail marketing is still the most popular marketing tool

Email is undoubtedly one of the easiest and fastest ways to reach multitudes of people although it would be a little difficult for you to figure out your target group from among this multitude. This brings up the question – can emailers be sent randomly? The answer is a Big No! A lot of ignorant marketers had in the early days had taken the power of email marketing for granted and ended up spamming people. Their actions also brought some bad name for this wonderful vehicle of communication. However, email marketing survived because the fundamentals are sound irrespective of the misdemeanors of the early spammers as well as those that are operational today. Advances in email features have empowered the users to push most spammers to the fringe.

The different types of emailers

Although there are many different types of emailers with awesome variety in design, they can be broadly classified into two types –

a) The standard direct mailer, announcing a new product, an event, or any communication that evokes immediate interest.

b) Newsletter, offering information and insights on a particular product or service, or an ongoing event, or anything which is relevant in the medium to long term.

While direct mailers serve a short term objective with an ad-like, high impact communication, newsletters generally have a medium to long term objective. It is aimed at sustaining a perception and growing interest with detailed information and insights.

Utilize the power of email marketing optimally

Whatever be the mode of your email communication, there are certain basics that don’t change. Nobody likes to be bombarded with emails, especially those that are not relevant or fail to convey anything meaningful other than a crude sales message. Most email users, including private corporate users, have enough options to filter out and block incoming spam mails. Unless you make efforts to identify the right target group to send your emailers, you’re going to get blocked out. Even if you do manage to get through the spam filters once in a while, you will invariably end up in the bin if your emailer doesn’t make sense to the recipient.

Precise and high impact communication

You have to decide what you want to communicate in as few words as you can. This is where your strategic messaging skills would be put to test. However, if you feel, this isn’t something you will be able to handle on your own, don’t hesitate to get the help of a professional content marketing agency. You really can’t afford to take a chance with this critical aspect of your emailer because this is what will determine whether your reader will spare his precious few seconds for you or not. Hit him with a header that not just makes sense to him but actually says what he wants to hear.

Meaningful eMailers still generate very high response from recipients

Move with a strategy

It would be pointless to get into any email marketing campaign without formulating a proper strategy. Any standalone emailer will fail to get the right message across and you will not be able to use the power of email marketing. The message that you want to convey to your reader, should be sequenced in a manner that it says all that you want to say, on the one hand, and gives you the value of recall for your communication, on the other. If you’re able to make the communication theme interesting enough, you’re definitely going to have a lot of your readers eagerly waiting to hear what you have to offer them.

Email marketing is undoubtedly one of the most effective ways to communicate to your target audience but there are some thumb rules that you need to follow to get it right. In terms of your message, the good old principles of copywriting are what you have to focus on. In terms of the delivery method, you must try and understand the scope and dimension of email as a vehicle to be able to optimize your communication.
