Today even technology companies with a B2B orientation can significantly benefit from social media for business since it is no longer the sole domain of consumer brands that many people wrongly assume.

Companies now increasingly use social media for new business leads, reaching out to their markets as well as for driving traffic into their websites, which prove that social media has tremendous potential for B2B engagement. One important point to be noted while formulating a social media strategy for business growth is the choice of channels. For instance, Linked In is an excellent platform for B2B businesses to engage with their target groups. They can regularly share blogs and articles on social media for business about the different aspects of the industry segment they operate in and what are the grey areas that need to be addressed.
Business can increase meaningful exchanges on social sites
Take the case of the corrugated sheet manufacturing industry for instance; the market potential is high but the industry potential to meet the demand is low due to lack of capital expenditure in the industry. Regular discourse among industry peers through posts and comments on Linked In often lead to useful engagement with actual results. Similarly, in the case of the food processing industry, just about 10% of India’s farm production gets processed while 30-40% is wasted due to poor or no post harvest management. That again is due to lack of capital expenditure in setting up food processing plants close to farmlands.

When companies discuss such grey areas of their industry segments in platforms like Linked In, Facebook or Twitter, they go a long way in mobilizing opinion of industry stakeholders, all of whom are present in these social sites. Twitter for instance, is an excellent site for news and event updates although these days Watsapp is competing fiercely with Twitter for this niche space. Can Watspp be considered a social media for business? Yes of course, it can be considered one. Businesses would do well to include Watsapp in their social media marketing strategies for the simple reason that its popularity and ease of use has disrupted the social media marketplace in a major way.
